Click on the images drawn on the wall above for a closer look at the individual images and for details relating to the source material. All these images are owned and cared for by Museums Sheffield. Most are on display somewhere in the city most of the time. For this installation - 'After' - I traced twelve of the most popular postcards sold by the Graves Art Gallery in Sheffield. These really are some of the most popular images that the city owns. The tracing was then blown up to the size of the painting and drawn directly onto the gallery wall in marker pen. Each iteration - painting > photograph > printer's plates > postcard > tracing > projection > drawing - introduces inevitable differences and errors of translation. From these images I had a set of postcards produced, returning the images to their original state. 'After' was one of two wall works created during the residency. The other was 'Gone' |
