I
spent two hours in Barrow-in-Furness asking people for any idea they
had to change Barrow. I gave them £1 for every idea they had.
Some had more then one. I asked them to write the idea down on a luggage
label. The resulting labels were then displayed as part of the Landing
Strip residency display at Art Gene along with the work of the three
rednile artists who had invited me to work with them.
The
results included: relocate
it to Polynesia - knock it down and start again - put a bomb under it
- give everyone a piece of cheese - bring back Burger King - build a
ski-slope - more police on the streets - force shops to convert the
unused space on first floors into flats - get a proper motorway link
- don't build the incinerator - more clubs for young people - pellets
and nets to repel pigeons - build a go-kart track - turn The Mills into
a place for under 16's to drive - build a covered shopping centre -
stop the little bastards running around and wrecking the children's
playgrounds

Track: After completing this piece I used some of the phrases to create
an uplifting decorative take on regeneration ideas.
