THE ALAN SMITHEE RETROSPECTIVE

I've always been fascinated by how different artists work and how they decide what a successful piece is as compared with a failing one.

To that end I would like to curate an exhibition under the guise of a Retrospective by the fictitious artist Alan Smithee. This is the name film directors take if they are unhappy with their work for whatever reason. More information here.

My intention is to solicit artists for work to be included. All the work would be shown anonymously (under the Alan Smithee name), but would include a short commentary by the artist explaining why they feel the work is flawed or failing. This could be due to a lack of budget, a flawed concept or realisation that it's a copycat. In fact, anything that makes the artist unsatisfied with the piece. It is not my intention to show out and out Bad Art (check out the Museum of Bad Art, from where I got the background image for that), but rather to highlight the creative process by shining a light on a few pieces by credible artists.
