COLLECTING BOXES

This is a funny one. I noticed that Sunday Colour Supplements were always having articles about photographers that recorded mundane stuff. Pile enough pictures together of similar objects and they acquire a gravity.

Martin Parr is particularly good at this. Collection Boxes that stand outside shops are much less prevalent than they used to be. Now they're chained the doorframes and some are reviled for being politically incorrect, but throughout my childhood they were at my level as I came out of the sweetshop and slowly collected the shoppers' change. I started recording them as I suspect they will disappear.
