Gloucester Road

Journey 01 - 2nd August 2004

Silver hair has started writing notes in his papers. The little boy laughs after his Mum says something into his ear. Now he looks bored again. Another woman (older) and her son – both American – are sitting next to me discussing the heat and how it might be eased. They turn out to be South African – at least she is. They are now discussing how they will pack his luggage. She refers to “the boot of the car”. He would probably call it the trunk, but he doesn't correct her. After a loud bang in the tube we all look up. We are now discussing Terror Alert colours. “New York's on red now.” But the noise was probably thunder – predicted along with the terrorism. “Miami is on yellow right now”.

...white shirt, red multi-beaded necklace and white trainers. She's listening to something with biggish headphones. Silver ones that probably reduce noise, unlike mine. The carriage is filling up now. Its 10.15am and tourists are moving towards Knightsbridge.
